sage yoga's All Humans 200-hour Teacher Training 

Whether or not you want to teach yoga, our leadership program will prepare you for your practice on and off the mat. You’ll learn the skills to build resilient communities, create safe, welcoming spaces, and become a leader.Through our unique program, you’ll learn how to create a practice outside the contemporary yoga world. This training incorporates traditional yoga philosophy, intersectional social justice work, and modern movement and anatomy concepts. You’ll learn how to empower yourself and your students to trust their bodies and their experiences in order to create wellness beyond your mat.

In this 200 hour program, you’ll learn how to

  • Utilize inclusive and inviting language

  • Modify asana for different body sizes and abilities

  • Create trauma-informed and aware classes

  • How various and intersecting identities such as race, gender, sexuality, etc can affect your students’ practice and your teaching

  • Incorporate body positive and Health at Every Size (HAES) concepts into your practice and teaching


Including the following curriculum

  • Human anatomy, bio-mechanics, and alignment

  • Philosophy and history of yoga disciplines

  • Daily practice, asana, pranayama, and meditation

  • Science and art of pose sequences and cues

  • Props, modifications, and verbal adjustments

JESSICA STARR  FOUNDER RYT-500, RCY, BUTI SHE/HER/HERS  Jessica founded Sage Yoga Co, and her gentle spirit guides our community. Her yoga journey began more than twenty years ago with a serious car accident left her a bit unmoored from her body. Yoga brought her back in touch physically and mentally, inspiring her to explore her practice in more depth and to bring yoga to others as a teacher. From studio settings to school programs to her role as a corporate HR director, she’s consistently folded yoga into efforts to foster health and mindful living. In 2015 Jessica launched Yogi and the Farmer, an urban farming and community wellness initiative that brought mind, body, and food together. Sage Yoga germinated in this project has grown into a warm and uplifting community center.

ELLIOT KESSE  DIRECTOR OF INCLUSION AND COMMUNICATION E-RYT 200, YOGA FOR ALL THEY/THEM/THEIRS  Elliot is a fat, atheist, agender spoonie* who specializes in teaching adaptive, mixed-level yoga to all humans. They founded change.yoga and serves as the Director of Inclusion & Communications at Sage Yoga, while still finding time to travel to other studios and communities to lead inclusion skillshares. Elliot practiced yoga for fifteen years off and on, and after diagnoses of several chronic illnesses, they found their way back to a consistent practice focused on meditation and breathwork. That essential practice led to teaching, and to a teaching philosophy grounded in helping students build their own practices for self-empowerment.. When they're not practicing or teaching yoga, Elliot is a freelance marketing consultant, a wannabe artist, an anti-dieting chef, and a gardener.

Being on her mat grew into a way of life. A few years later she moved to Chicago and found the universe was giving her the chance to invest in herself and she completed her 250 hour Power Yoga Training with Corepower Yoga. Since then she has also completed training in Prenatal, and Kids Yoga. Chelsea loves to guide her class in a creative flow that celebrates what their bodies can do. Her music inspires you to quiet your mind and let your body take the lead. She encourages you to take what you need from your mat and leave behind what you don’t. A few years later she moved to Chicago and found the universe was giving her the chance to invest in herself and she completed her 250 hour Power Yoga Training with Corepower Yoga. Since then she has also completed training in Prenatal, and Kids Yoga. Chelsea loves to guide her class in a creative flow that celebrates what their bodies can do. Her music inspires you to quiet your mind and let your body take the lead. She encourages you to take what you need from your mat and leave behind what you don’t. The training will consist of an in-person session one weekend per month. There will be mentoring, assignments, and practices between these in-person sessions.

As part of the leadership program, you’ll be required to complete 10 teaching hours and 40 karma (or volunteer) hours at Sage’s not-for-profit: The Mindfulness Foundation, our community partners such as the Welcome House, Brighton Center, Sunrock Farm, Redden Gardens or other local not-for-profits.

Program Requirements

  • An established personal yoga practice

  • Attendance in all in-person sessions (exceptions will be discussed on a case by case basis)

  • Completion of all reading and writing assignments

  • Observation and written evaluation of 3 yoga classes

  • Attendance in 1 yoga class or home practice per week during the training

  • Completion of 40 hours of karma/volunteer work

Required Resources

We will work primarily from three yoga text books. These books will be available for purchase through Amazon and other bookstore retailers.

Tuition and Payment

$250 Deposit at the time of application to secure your enrollment. Deposit is applied to your remaining balance. The deposit is refunded if you are not accepted into the program.

$2,500 if paid in full within 7 days of acceptance

6 payments of $450, for a total of $2,700*

12 payments of $250, for a total of $3,000*

* You will provide your credit card and it will be charged automatically each month

You will also receive unlimited yoga at Sage Yoga beginning October 1, 2019 through May 31, 2020 and a discount on class packs and monthly membership until the training begins.


Refund Policy

  • 100% refund if Sage Yoga is notified 30 days before the first training weekend begins on October 19, 2019 less the $250 deposit and a $250 processing fee.

  • After October 19, 2019 no other refunds will be issued.
